Garda badly burned in horrific hot oil attack

The unfortunate Michael O’Shea, 29, was attempting to break up a nasty row between a woman from the Ivory Coast and her partner and got caught in the crossfire when the woman flung a pot of boiling cooking oil in the direction of her partner.
Other residents in the flat complex in Dublin’s city centre came to O’Shea’s aid, bringing him to a nearby flat and putting him under a cold shower to help soothe the pain. O’Shea suffered burns to his face and his chest but mercifully it is thought that he will not suffer any permanent scarring.
O’Shea, who hails from Baldoyle in Dublin and was based in the Kevin Street Garda Station, was held overnight in the Burns Unit in St. James’ Hospital.
He had arrived at the flat complex after receiving a call from a man who was refused entry to the complex having turned up to collect his daughter from the woman who threw the oil over O'Shea.
A resident of the flat complex who witnessed the incident told The Star: “A woman came down from the third floor, the entrance of the flats and suddenly flung the saucepan at the child’s father from a few feet away.
“But most of the cooking oil splashed on the Garda, on his body and face. He was screaming with the pain.
“Some of us pushed him into a flat and he tore off his shirt with the oil on it and we put him in the shower and turned on the cold water. http://www.joe.ie/news-politics/current-affairs/garda-suffers-burns-in-horrific-hot-oil-attack-0013724-1
